The constant rareness in the numbers of, Mozambique’s casinos is in a sense more or less bewildering, in one way or another.
In years gone by, the city was a destination where lots of South Africans would travel to to get away from the especially prohibitive policies on casino gambling (and, it has to be said, mixing with other races) that they had at home. So, you are likely to bank on somewhat of a booming location to serve that tourist industry.
But, perhaps it is not really a discovery. The city is one of the most bankrupt on the planet, having gone through a horrific civil war (followed by damaging floods) from which it is still, very slowly, recovering. This tends to make a region less of a tourist destination, even though there is at the moment a flourishing scene along a few of the state’s beautiful beaches.
It is too true that regionally to a certain extent, casinos in Mozambique have had to partake with many others in the newly liberalized South Africa, which is inclusive of the well-known Sun City founded by the Kerzner family management.
Here’s a list of Mozambique’s casinos:
Maputo: Polana Casino Hotel
There are seventy eight slot machines and also video poker games, five tables of American roulette, four blackjack tables, and one poker table.
Namaacha: Sol Libombos Hotel Casino
There are 40 slot machines, American roulette, and two tables for poker as well as punto banco.
It is thought that over time the total tourism industry in Mozambique will flourish productively. While the local languages are, apparently, African, there is added to that the remnant of Portuguese from the old colonial power and the distinctive and expanding emergence of English, both from South Africa and as part of the worldwide phenomenon. The country is extremely cheap (clearly, as it is extremely poor) and as above, has some of the most stunning beaches on the globe, fronting onto the Indian Ocean. Those are the class of features that make tourism officials drool, and as the country ascends out of its existent slump, it is likely that not only will tourism develop, but that the list of casinos in Mozambique will grow longer as well.
While the country is skeptical to ever regain its distinction as a location for partying South Africans, as there are now other picks closer to home for them to derive pleasure in, the advancement of a long distance tourism business is being set-up. This would be to cater to Europeans seeking winter sun, as an escape from the dreariness of the Northern Hemisphere winter. Additionally, also, the greatest prawns (shrimp) around the world come from just offshore, in the Mozambique Channel.
