There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which casino betting is not legal. Eight gambling dens are situated in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and although visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship casino, contains 150 slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel building that features many amenities in addition to the casino, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
